Florida Interline Club News

    AUGUST 2005

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello Interliners ,

Greetings from Cyprus. Roy and I are here visiting my family and of course enjoying the island too. It is much hotter than Tampa, and I thank God for the air conditioning.

How are you all keeping? From your emails I see that most of you are on vacation still. So there will be no event for August and we have postponed the Columbian restaurant to mid September. So do let Shirley know that you are attending at her email shirldib@aol.com

Our WACA VP, International Events and Special Projects, John Aarons, unfortunately reports that the Baja Mexico Cruise has been deferred until March 2006 due to a lack of interest.  In the event that you would like to join the cruise email John and give him your Florida IC membership number. His email is kitpar@netspace.net.au

As for our International events it is our Annual Meeting in Agra, India.  IC of Portugal ,is hosting the Grande Festa from 30 September to 5 October. See beautiful Lisbon and visit by train Viseu, Seia, with their famous bread museum, Aveiro and more. The price is EUR 430 per person in double occupancy.

If you have a favorite bar, restaurant, dancing place do let us know. We want you to be part of everything we do.

If you would like to volunteer for the committee please email us or call, the more the merrier.

Yours in Interlining,

WACA HEADQUARTERS NEWS

38th Annual General Assembly (AGA) in Agra
I am happy to report that there are now over 200 interliners registered for the AGA. The Delhi Interline Club (DIC) are greatly encouraged by the numerous registrations received in past few weeks and encourage Member Clubs to continue the good work promoting the event.
WACA representatives of Member Clubs are requested, however, to ensure that their members fill in the registration forms in full as some registrations are being received from participants that are not clearly indicating: a need for extra accommodation, which package they are taking, rooming preference, etc. Indeed, some individuals are sending only their names without any registration form.
Member Clubs are reminded to tell their members that the AGA registration can be done on the DIC Club's Web site: delinterlineclub.com. In addition to the traditional ways of payment, registration on the Web enables the participant to pay by credit card at an exchange rate of USD 1 = Rs. 45.00. The site also covers everything you need to know about the AGA, e.g. the program, about Agra, tours, etc.
Participants should also be reminded to please bring bed linen and towels with them which will be donated to an orphanage and seniors' home. Coins for UNICEF and items for the auction should also be brought to the AGA as in past years.

Another reminder for interliners going to the AGA is the kind offer arranged by the Airline Club of Thailand for
Thai Airways International to issue ID90N2Y space available tickets to airline employees, active and retired, plus their families. Thai Airways offices worldwide are aware of this offer but tickets will only be issued upon presentation of a valid airline ID. Any queries should be addressed to the Airline Club of Thailand: airline@samart.co.th.

AGRA - Itmad Ud Daulah

Itmad Ud Daulah The city of Agra is full of architectural wonders. On one hand, it has the famous Taj Mahal, and on the other hand, it has the Agra Fort and Itmad-ud-Daulah's mausoleum. Itmad-ud-Daulah's tomb is a highly ornate edifice, which is looked upon as an imminent precursor of the Taj Mahal as far as elaborate carvings and inlay work are concerned. The tomb marks a significant departure from the tombs of the Mughal dynasty built before its construction. Belonging to the age of Jahangir, it contains cenotaphs of Mirza Ghiyas and Asmat Begum, parents of the powerful Mughal Empress Nurjahan queen of Jahangir, an exceptional beauty and an astute administrator. Mirza Ghiyas had left Persian in sheer penury in search of better prospects at the Mughal court. He benefited much from the influence of his daughter who he had once abandoned in the desert. Akbar offered him a good rank and privileges. Jahangir made him his prime minister with the title Itmad-ud-daulah (Pillar of the State). Nurjahan's brother Asaf Khan later became prime minister of Shahjahan. This Persian family formed at the Mughal court giving the grand Mughals two most celebrated queens-Nurjahan and Mumtaz Mahal (Lady of the Taj), daughter of Asaf Khan.
